Past Events 2013

November 20th. Peter Pugh. Another Bloody Railway.

Peter was assisted by his wife Rosemary and together they provided a superb evening’s entertainment with the Far East British Mail Via the Trans Siberian Railway. The first half concentrated on the period from 1903 to 1912 and included the many ports and towns visited on-route.

The period from 1913 was covered after the break and Peter told us of the different gauge tracks that had to be negotiated and the many forms of transport including Donkeys and Stage coach, that provided links for parts of the mails journey

October 16th. Peter Denly: Mans marine adventure.

Peter showed us a brilliant display of material Introduced and explained in a most professional manner. Starting with Primitive craft that have remained little changed through the centuries and covering all aspects of life on the sea including light houses. Peter finished the evening with a look at the rescue services and the humanitarian response to shipwreck.

June 19th. Visit from Henley on Thames

Three members from the Henley Society came to show two truly contrasting displays. First do display way Malcolm Gascoyne who is pictured showing Aspects of the London Post and his items included Letters from the 17th Century to modern day including many varieties of cancelation many of which are very scarce. After the Break Ian King told of how he spent much of his childhood in Argentina. Latter he was attracted to the modern Booklet stamps of that country which are printed in very small numbers compared to booklets from other countries.

Ian's display was viewed Via "Power point" during his talk.

Ian is pictured with some of his Booklets displayed on the Society boards.
